THE GUNMETAL HOUSE: A MONUMENT TO THE VICTIMS OF GUN VIOLENCE
On December 12, 2012 the United States was rocked by the terrifying news. In the small town of Newtown Connecticut, one that most of America,
became the center of the world's attention when a gunman broke into the Sandy Hook Elementary School and took the lives of 20 young school
children. While this terrible event seems like an anomaly, more and more often school shootings are occurring, malls are being shot up, machine guns
being fired into a local movie theatre. Because of the lax access to heavy artillery fire arms allowed in many states, these tragic events continue to occur.
The Gunmetal House is a tribute to the victims of these tragedies. Made out of recycled firearms, this building is a reminder that peace can be an option.
The hard metal of the outside represents the hard force of weaponry and its backgrounds, while the glass dome represents the fragility of a child, surrounded
by harmful outside forces with no option to stop it. This building, built right on the lawn of the Capitol Building, will serve as a reminder to the nations lawmakers
and to congress, that these terrible events must be stopped.
